OPEN STUDIOS

City-Wide Open Studios is a week-long event dedicated to the community of working artists in St. Louis. Free and open to the public, this event offers a unique opportunity to explore these creative spaces and enjoy one of the most exciting aspects of contemporary art—the chance to discuss art with the artists themselves.

Open Studios takes place each year in July.

Check back here in April for more information about Open Studios 2010, or visit the Contemporary’s website.

ABOUT THE CONTEMPORARY

With a vision of presenting the most relevant and experimental developments in contemporary art and developing successful community partnerships, education programs and outreach initiatives, the Contemporary makes the arts available to wide and diverse audiences throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. Founded as the Forum for Contemporary Art in 1980, the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis re-opened with a new 25,000 square-foot building in 2003. 1. The City-wide Open Studio Event was a great success–and a wonderful idea! Thanks Contemporary Art Museum for making it possible. Let’s keep art thriving in St. Louis!!

  2. How can an artist become included in the 2010 tour?

    • Thank you for your question. Please check back on this website or http://www.camstl.org under artist opportunities in April of 2010. You can also submit your contact information to the Contemporary through info@camstl.org and we can add you to our mailing list. You would then be advised of upcoming opportunities through mail or email. When you send your information, please be sure to include that you are an artist and are interested in artist opportunities. Thank you.

We found several artists we wanted to see their studios. Only most of these aretist were Soulard and the directory sent us to another gallery. We were very disappointed… how many of the addresses on Saturday’s list were actual studios and not gallaries?

    • Thanks for your question. Almost all participating artists had studios; however, in St. Louis, there are MANY artist collaborations and shared spaces for artists. Soulard Art Market, for instance, is a space that houses the studios of many artists together. It is at the discretion of the participating artists themselves whether to show off their creative processes or simply to display their work.
